Orchid

I was walking so calm when Cupid passed by my side and shot me an arrow of love. It was at that very moment that I saw the orchid, a beautiful plant with a super elegant flower. Love at first sight. Since that day, I began to investigate it and… how fascinating! The more I know about this plant, the more in love I am. I have found that Orchids help improve air quality, reducing stress and headaches. Even my Asian cousin told me that it has an important role in Feng Shui. With all these benefits, it is very important to know how to take good care of it!

light and temperature

Oh, my orchid, so beautiful and so fragile. One of the first things I realized about this plant is that, although it appreciates sunlight very much, it should not be touched directly, as it can burn easily. Do you know when a very white person goes to the beach and immediately gets burned? Well, imagine the same, only without sunscreen or umbrella. The next thing to keep in mind is that it should be placed in a warm space, which does not exceed 30ºC or go below 10ºC. So away from any device that emits heat or cold, such as air conditioners and heaters!

irrigation, fertilization and transplant

I suppose that this plant has some ancestor that was a diver, because the most effective way to water it that I have found has been to submerge it for about twenty minutes in water, and then let it drain for an hour. Luckily, this treatment is only necessary once a week! Maybe I should visit the bottom of the sea to see if I can find any Underwater Orchids… Well, let's get our feet back on the ground. And, precisely speaking of soil, it is recommended that you use soluble fertilizer, since this way it will be able to absorb a greater amount of water and it will bloom with all its splendor. I have been able to observe how if every year or two -at the end of winter- it is transplanted from a pot, the orchid grows much healthier and stronger. A very important fact!

diseases and pests

I once left an orchid in my garden, and before I knew it…it had been visited by some unwelcome snails and slugs! Lucky I was on the lookout and spotted them before it was too late.

Jordi's notes

Well, it turns out that orchids are part of the largest family of flowering plants in the world, exceeding 25,000 species. Including the famous vanilla! If all are reasons to love her. Those beautiful white flowers make me think of the beaches of Bali, a country full of charm and romance. From now on I will call it that.
